Concerns for Parkinson's and Dementia in those Aging with IDD

People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) are living longer than ever before. Age related decline is common and is often part of the normal aging process. Degenerative brain conditions including Parkinson's disease and Dementia also become more prevalent including early onset Alzheimer's disease in those with Down syndrome. The presentation will provide an overview on how to best assess normal physical and cognitive aging as well as various neuropathologies. Care practices for families and support staff and community based organizations will also be reviewed.
