What We're Looking For
The Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Media & Communications Manager. The mission of our Center is to promote the flourishing of children and adults with disabilities, families, and communities through compelling research, training, leadership, outreach, and clinical services. We want to showcase the impactful work of the Center as we strive to expand its reach and portfolio of resources. This new role will be instrumental in helping us tell the story of how the Center is meeting pressing needs in our community, state, and nation. This person will support our internal and external communications strategy, help design and develop Center resources, and write and disseminate publicity and promotional material.
A bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience are required. Education or experience in communications, journalism, or related fields is preferred.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multi-task under tight deadlines
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Expertise in the effective use of social media
• Proficient in design and publishing software (e.g., InDesign/Photoshop/Canva)
• Familiarity with broad issues related to people with disabilities and their families
About the Center for Developmental Disabilities:
The https://www.baylor.edu/bcdd/ invests in research, training, outreach, and clinical services that promote the flourishing of people with disabilities, their families, and communities. The Center hosts a growing number of programs, clinics, projects, and events focused on supporting individuals with intellectual disability, autism, and an array of other developmental disabilities. Likewise, we are committed to helping schools and communities welcome and support the full participation of people with disabilities and their families.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
• Collaborate with BCDD leadership, affiliated faculty, and staff to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience
• Support the marketing and communications efforts of the BCDD's various projects and initiatives
• Help develop the scope and look of Center materials (e.g., print and electronic resources)
• Develop and implement strategies that strengthen the image of the BCDD
• Manage social media, web, digital, and print media
• Produce program brochures, major event flyers and other materials, promotional items, and various other pieces of communication
• Write, edit, and distribute content, including Center publications, website content, annual reports, press releases, and other marketing material
• Maintain the BCDD marketing and promotion presence on the Baylor website
• Design, write, and produce regular Center newsletters
• Maintain and grow a database of newsletter subscribers
• Seek out and execute opportunities to enhance the reputation of the BCDD
• Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and other media
• Participate in and contribute to regular Center team meetings
• Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
• Ability to comply with University policies
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance
