Editor of AJIDD Announced

Washington, DC (July 1, 2014)

Deb FidlerThe American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is extremely pleased to announce that Deborah Fidler, PhD has been appointed by its Board of Directors as the next Editor of the American Journal on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AJIDD), the Association’s multidisciplinary journal for reporting original contributions of the highest quality to knowledge of intellectual disability, its causes, treatment, and prevention. She begins a four year term as Editor on July 1, 2014.

Dr. Fidler is a Professor of Human Development and Family Studies with Tenure (Graduate Faculty), Department of Human Development and Family Studies, at Colorado State University. A member of the Association since 2001, she currently serves as an Associate Editor for AJIDD and Down Syndrome Quarterly.

In describing her vision for AJIDD, Dr. Fidler states that she intends to appeal “to an even wider audience by emphasizing the clinically relevant information in the empirical and theoretical work published in this premiere outlet.” She notes that “at present, AJIDD enjoys a reputation as a source for rigorous IDD-related science. Yet the primary rationale for much of the work published in AJIDD is to inform and guide translational work that will lead to new or more effective treatment, educational, and intervention-related best practices for individuals with IDD across the lifespan.”

Dr. Fidler succeeds Leonard J Abbeduto, PhD, of University of California Davis, as Editor of AJIDD. AJIDD is among the top-ranked, peer-reviewed publications reporting current and critical research in the biological, behavioral, and educational sciences. AJIDD contains high-quality, original contributions to the literature on intellectual disability, its causes, treatment, and prevention.
