AAIDD Journals to Move to Taylor & Francis Platform in 2026

February 19, 2025 (Silver Spring, MD)

AAIDD Journals to Move to Taylor & Francis Platform in 2026:
All AAIDD journals to Become Online Only

The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) announces that it will move the operations of its three premier journals, American Journal on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Inclusion, to Taylor & Francis. This transition will also mark the end of hard copy, paper production for the journals AJIDD and IDD: starting in 2026 all three of AAIDD’s journals will be online only.

AAIDD will continue to own, select the editors, and set the content standards for its journals. Taylor & Francis will manage the day-to-day operations, marketing, and subscription management. The journals will be hosted on the Taylor & Francis platform beginning in January 2026; the submission of articles will transition to ScholarOne in the late summer or early fall of 2025.

“Nearly all our members and library subscribers have already chosen to access the journals exclusively online,” said Margaret Nygren, CEO of AAIDD. “Moving the AAIDD journals onto the Taylor & Francis platform will help us extend their reach and better serve the field.”

With this move, AAIDD expects that its journals will have greater visibility, and authors will be better served by the advanced features Taylor & Francis offers, which include the ability to make articles available online prior to their placement in an issue, include supplemental materials with articles, and display key article and journal metrics (e.g. views and citation counts from Cross Ref, Web of Science, Scopus, Altimetric Attention Score). In addition, authors will have the option of making their article open access (OA) for a fee.

Taylor & Francis is an academic publisher of books and journals established in 1798 and based in the UK. They produce journals for 283 society partners and have a well-established portfolio of disability journals, including the Journal of Disability & Religion, which is included with membership in AAIDD’s Religion & Spirituality Interest Network.
