Supporting Families During Times of Transition
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families experience a number of transitions across the lifespan. Our research with aging parents and siblings whose relatives recently transitioned from residing in state-operated institutions to living in the community found that families desire and benefit from supportive partnerships with professionals. We will briefly discuss our research findings as well as implications and strategies for supporting families.
