After a decade of research and development, the AAIDD Diagnostic Adaptive Behavior Scale (DABS) has been released and is now available. The DABS is an individually administered standardized instrument for assessing the adaptive behavior of people between 4 and 21 years old for the purpose of determining whether the person meets the adaptive behavior criterion for a diagnosis of intellectual disability (ID). The adaptive behavior criterion refers to the presence of significant limitations in adaptive behavior as expressed in conceptual, social, or practical adaptive skills. The DABS is a norm-referenced instrument that uses data obtained from an interview with a respondent who knows the person very well. We will briefly present in this webinar the characteristics of the DABS, its administration procedures, its rating system, sample items, its computerized scoring system and sample report as well as an overview of its psychometric properties.
