Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Special Issue:
Partnering with Families Throughout the Lifespan
Guest Editors: Hedda Meadan, PhD, BCBA-D & Melinda R. Snodgrass, PhD
Manuscript Submission Due: February 1, 2018
Background
In 2015, AAIDD identified supporting families as one of its National Goals in Research, Policy, and Practice, stating the following:
Families form a core unit of our society, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often receive the majority of their emotional, physical, and material support from their families throughout their lives. To better understand how families can maximize their capacity, strengths, and unique abilities to support their family members with IDD, more information on families, their needs, and what constitutes successful outcomes is necessary.
This special issue will contribute to this mission by focusing on manuscripts that inform our understanding of the experiences of families with individuals with DD and their interactions and partnerships with professionals across the lifespan.
Priority Topics
We will give priority to high quality submissions that include:
- ●High-quality descriptive research that explores families’ interactions with professionals, including reflections on practices that are both supportive and detrimental.
- ●Data-based evaluation of existing innovative practices that will inform how professionals can best partner with families across the lifespan.
However, all submissions related to partnering with families and families experiences with professionals will be considered.
