Student and Early Career Scholarship Opportunities at the AAIDD Annual Meeting

Scholarships

Several of AAIDD’s professional interest groups make scholarships available to students and early career professionals (SECPs) to offset the cost of their attendance at the AAIDD Annual Meeting.

Scholarships type and criteria information below:

  • Various AAIDD Interest Networks $550 plus a free registration
    Student and Early Career Professionals Scholarships - this scholarship is provided by various AAIDD Interest Groups (generally 1 per, based on available funds)

Purpose: To both acknowledge and foster outstanding student and early career professional research contributions to the Association

How to apply: check box  when submitting your abstract

Criteria:

  1. The student or early career must be the lead author on an accepted paper or poster presentation 
  2. The proposal will be evaluated on the quality of the research, appropriateness of the methodology, adequacy of analysis, and quality of planned presentation.
  3. Attendance at the AAIDD Annual Meeting is REQUIRED for the the funds to be disbursed.
  4. Students may be full or part time.


  • Psychology Interest Network - Amount tbd plus a free registration

Purpose: To support psychology students. (up to 2)

Criteria:

  1. Student identifies their discipline as psychology
  2. The student be the lead author on an accepted paper or poster presentation
  3. The proposal must be meritorious
  4. Attendance at the AAIDD Annual Meeting is REQUIRED for the the funds to be disbursed.
  5. Students may be full or part time.


  • Region V Student Scholarship - Amount $950

Purpose: To support students from Region V states (up to 2)

Criteria:

  1. Student must resides in one of Region V states: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas
  2. The student must be the lead author on an accepted paper or poster presentation 
  3. The proposal must be meritorious
  4. Attendance at the AAIDD Annual Meeting is REQUIRED for the the funds to be disbursed.
  5. Students may be full or part time.





  • Legal Process and Advocacy Network Student Scholarship - $550 plus a free registration

    Purpose

    a) To develop a broader base of engaged members for the LP&A’s agenda and activities; 
    b)  develop and support students’ capacities for legal and policy activities related to the rights of individuals with IDD; and 
    c) encourage the active participation of applicant students and early career professionals in the development and implementation of the LP&A’s agenda and activities.

Selection criteria:

  1. Student (a) is a junior or senior undergrad or a graduate student in good standing in a higher education degree program that is closely related to people with IDD,
  2. describes an excellent plan showing how attendance at the AAIDD conference will enhance their study about legal issues and advocacy for people with IDD, and
  3. exhibits high standards of professionalism and ethics as evidenced by the faculty reference letter..

How to Apply: Student must submit the following documentation

1. A signed letter of application by the student that brief describes how attendance at the AAIDD conference will enhance the student’s study about legal issues and advocacy for people with IDD.
2. A signed letter of reference, preferably on University letterhead, from a faculty member in the student’s higher education degree program.
