Announcing a unique partnership between NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and NYSTART. The newly designed Intellectual Disabilities/Mental Health unit will be the first of its kind in New York State. The ID/MH unit will be the only adult inpatient specialty psychiatric service for adults with both Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Health disorders in the tristate area. It is an exciting opportunity to work with a newly formed interdisciplinary team and build a model of care to address this dually diagnosed populations unique care needs. The Psychiatrist provides leadership and collaboration with OMH, OPWDD, & NYSTART colleagues for this newly formed unit. Provides direct psychiatric evaluation, assessment, and treatment. Assists in the completion of appropriate mental hygiene legal papers. Collaborate in the running of community meetings, family meetings, and the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu. Ensure compliance with standards of regulatory agencies. Train allied professionals in dual diagnosis of patients. Participate in national START team medical directors study group.

Candidate must be MD or D.O. from an accredited School of Medicine, licensed to practice in the State of New York. Completed residency training from an accredited program in Psychiatry. Board certified/eligibility in Psychiatry. Has specific training and understanding of working with patients with ASD and/or ID/D; including dual diagnosis and associated genetic syndromes. Must have understanding of developmental and cognitive profiles on the manifestation of emotional distress and psychiatric disorders.
