AAIDD Announces James Thompson as Editor of IDD

Washington, DC (June 29, 2016)

James R. Thompson IDDThe American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is extremely pleased to announce that James R. Thompson, PhD, FAAIDD, has been appointed by its Board of Directors as the next Editor of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), the Association’s multidisciplinary peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal of policy, practices, and perspectives. He begins a four year term as Editor on July 1, 2016.

Dr. Thompson is a Professor and Senior Scientist at the Beach Center on Disability and Associate Director of the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities. He is a Fellow and past president of the Board of Directors of AAIDD and the lead author of the Supports Intensity Scale, Supports Intensity Scale-Adult Version, and the Supports Intensity Scale-Children's Version

In describing his vision for IDD, Dr. Thompson states that he intends to continue to assure that "research articles have clear implications for practice and are of interest and relevance to professionals from multiple disciplines, that policy papers respect the sophistication of the readership but avoid an overly 'wonkish' approach, and that perspective articles represent diverse ideas and encourage thoughtful discourse."

Dr. Thompson succeeds Glenn Fujiura, PhD, of University of Illinois Chicago, as Editor of
IDD. As a journal with an applied focus, IDD provides a forum for the dissemination of rigorously reviewed, actionable information that is relevant to emerging policies, innovative practices, and transformative concepts.
