Delegation to Norway

June 16-24, 2013

AAIDD is organizing a delegation to Norway which will include participation in two international conferences on intellectual disability and other professional exchanges. AAIDD is delighted to partner with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) on this delegation.

The goal of the delegation is to research the supports provided for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Norway and other countries. To learn firsthand about these approaches, the delegation will

  • Participate in two international conferences;
  • Meet with representatives of health, education, and social service systems;
  • Engage meaningfully with local Norwegians and their culture; and
  • Examine how the nation’s history, culture and context shaped the Norwegian approach to intellectual disability.

Sponsored by four universities, the Inherent Dignity, Equality, and Rights conference consists of two single-day events held in different cities: Human Rights and Rule of Law (June 18 in Oslo) and Living Conditions and Quality of Life (June 20 in Trondheim). The "call for papers" deadline for these conferences is February 15, 2013.

Since 1996, AAIDD has sponsored professional research and exchange delegations to China, South Africa, Russia, India, Cuba, and Brazil.  The tentative agenda, along with application and health forms are available on this website.

We invite you to join members of the AAIDD and AUCD in this important international exchange. Your professional experience will contribute to the future of the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities while allowing you to gain both personally and professionally from the experience.

Space is limited! Because of the popularity of our professional programs, early completion of applications is strongly encourged. For more information, contact Jason Epstein at 202-387-1968 x 204 or jepstein@aaidd.org.
