BACKGROUND

New Hope Community

New Hope Community is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residentially based settings. Located on a sprawling campus in Loch Sheldrake, NY (Sullivan County), New Hope Community is home to over 240 individuals between its campus and off-site residences. Opportunities for individuals and day program members include art classes, music and performance classes in a state-of-the-art theater, riding programs at on-site horse stables, a greenhouse and more. For over 40 years, New Hope Community’s commitment to investing in its facilities and programs has made it a premier point of support for the population it serves.

Recognized for these premier services, in September 2015, New Hope Community was awarded the coveted Person-Centered Excellence National Accreditation from the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL), the preeminent leader in defining, measuring and improving the quality of life for all people. Programs and Services

New Hope Community’s residential program provides a wide array of living options, ranging from a campus setting to integrated housing in traditional neighborhoods in the community. The housing staff provides individualized service delivery, including personal care, clinical support, recreational activities, and social development. Over 240 people currently call New Hope Community home, with services continuing to expand each year.

In addition to housing, New Hope Community provides a variety of other programs and services. The day programs include on-campus classes in technology, fine arts, athletics, gardening and horseback riding, as well as the Without Walls program, which promotes educational experience within the greater Sullivan County and Hudson Valley community.

Location

New Hope Community is located in the Catskills, a large region in the southeastern portion of New York State.  New Hope is 95 miles southwest of Albany, NY and 100 miles north of NYC. The area boasts major downhill ski and snowboard areas, numerous hiking trails, and options for kayaking, rafting and fly fishing, as well as many cultural and musical events, often located at the world renowned Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The community has long been attractive to those seeking to indulge their love of the outdoors while still being an easy drive or train journey from New York City. Sullivan County is also experiencing a resurgence of economic development. For example, minutes from New Hope Community, Adelaar, with its 5 star world class casino, hotel and spa, fine dining, retail, golf and indoor water park, will cater to the family when it opens in 2018.

THE POSITION

The Vice President of Philanthropy position was created to spearhead a newly focused effort to develop private funds to support the creation of new organization-wide initiatives. These new initiatives will, among other things, continue to ensure New Hope’s programs excel in providing support to individuals and their families. These efforts also include positioning New Hope as a thought leader in supporting the activities (i.e. staff training, family engagement) of those dedicated to working with those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as the chief fundraising officer, the Vice President of Philanthropy is a fundraising generalist responsible for creating and growing programs in annual giving, online giving, corporate/foundation giving, planned gifts and bequests, special events, and individual major gifts.

Working closely with the CEO and other senior staff, the Vice President of Philanthropy will also ensure that New Hope Community has a strong fundraising communications program. S/he will oversee the creation of fundraising collateral materials both in print and electronically for online usage.  The communications program also includes proper donor recognition and stewardship at all levels of giving.

The Vice President of Philanthropy should be an experienced and entrepreneurial driven candidate who is self-motivated and eager to work across the organization in a highly collaborative manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and implement a strategic plan for all fundraising activities, including annual/major gifts, corporate sponsorships, online giving, special events and planned gifts; work with the CEO, volunteer leaders and staff, to successfully execute the plan.
  • Build and grow an effective fundraising program that will generate diverse financial support for, and public awareness of New Hope Community.
  • Participate in setting organizational strategy, goals and objectives as an active member of the New Hope management team.
  • Serve as an articulate and highly active and visible spokesperson to the donor community and a variety of key constituencies to enhance recognition and support for New Hope.
  • Ensure that best practices and new and emerging technologies such as online giving are appropriately incorporated into fundraising strategy.
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of individual principal/planned gift donors and prospects; develop creative identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies, moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward closure.
  • Serve as a principal in the process that obtains input from organization leadership to identify and recommend priorities for potential philanthropic projects that will yield the highest impact for New Hope.
  • Travel throughout the region to develop relationships with donors and corporate sponsors.
  • Ensure the sound operation of all fundraising systems and procedures including donor database, donor recognition and stewardship, gift processing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working within a comprehensive fundraising program in a similarly-sized institution.
  • A proven/demonstrable track record of success, innovation, and progressive accomplishments in fundraising with experience in corporate fundraising and individual giving.
  • Demonstrated success as a fundraising executive with the ability to effectively create a fundraising strategic plan and operation.
  • Strong operational skills in designing systems and processes around tracking of foundation calendars, donor recognition/stewardships systems, donor databases.

  • Team-oriented personality and style.
  • An ability to understand and be comfortable discussing the issues, challenges and opportunities in serving those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with the ability to complete projects on a timely basis and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
