Position Description:

The Indiana Institute on Disability and Community (IIDC) is seeking a Research Scholar to serve as Director of the newly formed Center on Health Promotion and Wellness.  This will act as a statewide and national resource to study, support, and advance health and wellness of people with disabilities in the community. The work of the center will include, but is not limited to, developing a portfolio of funded projects, designing and implementing a research agenda, developing and implementing a training and technical assistance program, and disseminating information to constituents.  This is a twelve-month, non-tenure track, academic position.

The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing an annual work plan to develop a program that includes: 1) externally funded initiatives; 2) collaborative initiatives with other IIDC centers; 3) dissemination and outreach; and, 4) developing new external sources of funding.


1.  Develop and grow a new and emerging program of research, training and technical assistance related to health promotion and wellness for persons with disabilities and communities.

2.  Coordinate all related state and federal grants awarded, subcontracts, and consultants to the center.

3.  Secure external funding for projects leading to the development, field-testing, and dissemination of outcomes and products to benefit people with disabilities. 

4.  Provide consultation and technical assistance to national, state and local entities that benefit people with disabilities.

5.  Maintain an ongoing affiliation with local, state, and national professionals in research and development activities.

6.  Manage and supervise center staff. Conduct administrative duties for budgets, grant deliverables, and other Institute related responsibilities.

7.  Serve on the leadership team and participate in management meetings and activities of the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.

8.  Maintain an affiliation with the appropriate school at Indiana University, which is consistent with the responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member at a major research university.

Basic Qualifications:

1.  Earned doctorate in Public Health, Social Work, Public Policy, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Education, or related area.

2.  Demonstration of a working knowledge of health, healthcare, and health promotion for people with disabilities.

3.  Demonstrated expertise in program development, including grant and proposal writing, particularly as it relates to providing services and conducting research in the field of disabilities. 

4.  Demonstrated ability to secure external funding to advance a program of research and training.

5.  Preference will be given to individuals who have teaching and research experience with individuals who have disabilities.

6.  Preference will be given to successful publication record in refereed journals, books, book chapters, and other outlets.

7.  Experience in leadership, including successfully developing and supporting staff. 

8.  Equivalent combination of education and experience.
