Katherine McDonald, PhD, Awarded 2012 Early Career Award

June 20, 2012, Charlotte, NC:

Katherine McDonald, PhD, of Syracuse University, received the 2012 Early Career Award today at the 136th annual meeting of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD).

The AAIDD Early Career Award is presented in recognition of contribution to or achievement in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities by an individual in the early stages of their career.

Dr. McDonald learned firsthand the marginalization that adults with developmental disabilities experience and the power of positive transformative relationships when she lived in a community of L’Arch. Her current work, research, and service use ecological theory and social action approaches to understand and promote community integration of individuals with disabilities. Dr. McDonald has also served on the board of directors for L’Arche Nehalem, L’Arche Chicago, the Arc of Multnomah-Clackamas County and two university institutional review boards.
