 f this presentation is to share how the history of guardianship policies a
 re changing and what professionals need to consider when discussing and ex
 ploring options for guardianship to better align with principles of self-d
 etermination and the vision of the United Nations Convention of the Rights
  of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  Speaker\nDr. Marks is a professor o
 f special education at Northern Arizona University where she teaches in th
 e special education teacher preparation program. She is also a Board Certi
 fied Behavior Analyst. She received her doctorate from the University of O
 regon in 1995\, and has worked in the field of special education and devel
 opmental disabilities for more than 35 years.&nbsp\; During those 35 years
 \, she worked in residential programs\, rehabilitation programs\, and scho
 ol programs serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. Her advoca
 cy interests led her to pursue a law degree\, which she completed in Decem
 ber 2014.&nbsp\;
